Standing With Our Youngest Heroes
At the Kittery Lions Club, we believe that no child should have to face the challenge of a cancer diagnosis alone. Childhood cancer doesn’t just affect a patient; it ripples through families, schools, and our entire Seacoast community. That is why we have made pediatric cancer support a cornerstone of our mission.

While the medical teams focus on the cure, the Lions focus on the family. We work to bridge the gap between hospital care and home life, whether that’s through regional District projects like the Magic Yarn Project, providing travel assistance for specialized treatments, or simply offering a hand to hold during the hardest days. By investing in pediatric oncology resources and supporting local families, we aim to replace fear with hope and ensure that every child has the strength to keep fighting.

Tackling the Diabetes Challenge
Diabetes is one of the most pressing health challenges facing our community and the world today.
At the Kittery Lions Club, we view it as a mission of prevention and empowerment. We know that with the right education and early detection, we can help our neighbors lead longer, more vibrant lives.
Our commitment to this cause goes beyond just statistics. We work to bring awareness to the Seacoast through local health initiatives, support for screening programs, and promoting healthy lifestyles within our own membership and beyond. Whether we are supporting global research through our foundation or helping a neighbor understand their risks, the Lions are dedicated to reducing the impact of this disease. We believe that by working together, we can turn the tide on diabetes and ensure a healthier future for every generation in Kittery.

First to Arrive, Last to Leave
When disaster strikes—whether it’s a local emergency here in New England or a global crisis across the ocean—the Lions are among the first on the scene. We believe that tragedy requires more than just sympathy; it requires immediate, organized action. As members of the Kittery Lions Club, we are proud to be the local face of a global network that provides food, water, clothing, and medical supplies the moment a community is in need.
Our approach to disaster relief is two-fold. Through the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), we help provide the large-scale funding necessary for long-term recovery and rebuilding. Locally, we focus on the human element—supporting our neighbors through the immediate aftermath and staying present long after the news cameras have left. For us, disaster relief isn't just about the initial response; it’s about the steady work of helping a community find its footing again and rebuilding the places we call home.

Protecting Our Backyard: Environmental Stewardship
At the Kittery Lions Club, we believe that service includes caring for the planet we share. Our commitment to the environment is rooted in the idea that a healthy community starts with a healthy landscape. From our local shorelines to our neighborhood parks, we take pride in being active stewards of the natural beauty that makes Kittery and the Seacoast so special.

Sustainability in Action
Our environmental work is woven into the daily life of Kittery. Through our ongoing bottle and can redemption program, we provide a community-wide recycling solution that keeps litter out of our streets and waterways. This program does double duty: it protects our local ecosystem by diverting waste from landfills and directly funds the charitable projects that support our neighbors. Whether it’s organizing local clean-up days or promoting sustainable practices, we are dedicated to leaving the world better than we found it.

A Heart for Humanity: Serving Our Neighbors
At the core of the Kittery Lions Club is a simple, unchanging truth: we are here to help. Our humanitarian mission is built on the belief that when we serve one another, we strengthen the entire community. For over 60 years, the Lions have acted as a local safety net, providing support that bridges the gap for those who may have nowhere else to turn.

Compassion Without Borders
Our humanitarian work is as diverse as the needs of Kittery itself. Whether we are providing medical equipment for a neighbor in need, supporting local youth programs, or contributing to global initiatives through the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), our goal is to alleviate suffering and promote dignity. We don't just see projects; we see people. By fostering a spirit of generosity and mutual respect, we work to ensure that every resident of the Seacoast feels seen, supported, and valued.

Feeding the Seacoast: Our Fight Against Hunger
No member of our community should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. At the Kittery Lions Club, we believe that access to nutritious food is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. Hunger is often a hidden struggle, but the Lions work every day to bring it into the light and provide tangible solutions for our neighbors in need.

Local Action, Global Support
Our approach to hunger is hands-on. We partner with local food pantries, organize community food drives, and support regional nutrition programs to ensure that no child, senior, or family in Kittery goes without. By combining our local volunteer efforts with the global reach of the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), we are able to provide both immediate relief and long-term support. For us, a "Philanthropic Friday" isn't just a post—it's a commitment to filling cupboards and strengthening the spirit of our town, one meal at a time.

A World in Focus: Our Mission for Vision
Since 1925, when Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "Knights of the Blind," vision has been at the very heart of what we do. At the Kittery Lions Club, we believe that clear sight—and the tools to navigate the world without it—are gateways to independence and a better quality of life.

The Gift of Sight: Eyeglass Recycling
One of our most visible local initiatives is our Eyeglass Recycling Program. Those old frames sitting in your drawer can change a life. We collect used prescription glasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses through our local collection bins throughout Kittery and the Seacoast. Once processed, these glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries, allowing a child to learn in school or an adult to maintain a job.

The White Cane: A Symbol of Independence
We also champion the use and recognition of the White Cane, a vital tool for safety and mobility. For decades, Lions have been instrumental in promoting white cane laws and safety awareness, ensuring that visually impaired neighbors can navigate our streets with dignity and security. In Kittery, we continue this legacy by supporting vision health education and advocating for a community that is accessible and safe for everyone, regardless of their level of sight.

Investing in the Next Generation
We believe that the future of Kittery is shaped by the opportunities we provide for our youth today. The Kittery Lions Club is dedicated to empowering young people, fostering leadership, and ensuring that every child has the support they need to reach their full potential.

The Power of the Outdoors: Camp Susan Curtis
One of our most cherished youth initiatives is our partnership with Camp Susan Curtis. We know that for many children in Maine, the barrier to a life-changing summer camp experience is often financial. Our club proudly sponsors local students to attend this transformational program, which focuses on leadership, character development, and academic success in a beautiful outdoor setting. By removing the cost for families, we ensure that Kittery’s youth can build the confidence and skills they need to thrive, both at camp and back home in our community.

Leadership and Literacy
Our commitment to youth doesn't stop at the camp gates. From providing local scholarships for graduating seniors to supporting literacy programs in our schools, we are here to champion the next generation. Whether through the Leo Club program or local youth sports and arts, the Lions are proud to be a constant source of encouragement and support for the young leaders of tomorrow.
